Chem 2.0 - ACS Alerts Your Way

March 15th, 2007 by mitch (180 Views)

There should be a way to have ACS notify you when a paper is published about a topic you are interested in. For instance, if you were an aromatic freak, there should be a way to have ACS tell you when a paper regarding aromaticity comes out. Now there is! The following is the url for an RSS feed for the term “Aromatic”:

TM

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=vOrZbmnT2xGwr12mJhOy0Q&pubssearch=aromatic&_render=rss

The rss feed will automatically update itself when a new article with the term aromatic is published. The only catch is that the word aromatic has to be found in the title. The above url could be placed into the reader of your choice and you will always be kept up to date. But that isn’t all, who isn’t a fan of James Tour’s nanopeople? If you want to be kept up to speed every time Tour sneezes you can follow his exploits with the following feed:
http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=vOrZbmnT2xGwr12mJhOy0Q&pubssearch=Tour&_render=rss

Like Gabor Somorjai? Stalk him with this feed:
http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=vOrZbmnT2xGwr12mJhOy0Q&pubssearch=Somorjai&_render=rss

Want to make your own personal feeds. Here is the link:

This was all accomplished with the wonderful Yahoo Pipes.

Yahoo Pipes is the latest product of the new semi-autonomous business unit, Yahoo Brickhouse, of Yahoo!. Speaking of which, Salim Ismail, the co-founder of Flickr, is now running the show at the Brickhouse. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/03/14/salim-ismail-to-head-yahoo-brickhouse/

I will continue to expand the chemical possibilities of yahoo pipes, so expect more. In the mean time, I will be having some insane fun with this new “research-tool”. Feel free to go nuts!
