Fail: Virginity Rates of Chemistry Undergraduates

by mitch on May 11 2008 (3404 Views)

I’ve been recently pointed to some surprisingly high virginity statistics for undergraduate chemistry majors at MIT and Wellesley college. Wellesley’s Graph is below.

Percent of students that are virgins, by Wellesley major

Aside from chemistry majors tying with mathematicians on their lack of sexual hedonism, the take-home message is computer science majors are a bunch of liars. MIT’s graph is below.

Percent of students that are virgins, by MIT major

At least at MIT the percentage is lower and we’re not tied for 1st. But to lose so solidly to the physicists does sting a bit. In my experience, undergraduate chemists are a bunch of drunken horny kids, so I’m not sure what is going wrong on the east coast. I’ll put my faith in “the transforming power of chemistry” to remedy this problem.

These statistics are from a college newspaper survey way back in 2001, so take it with a grain of salt. Yes, I was an undergraduate chemist in 2001…

I’m usually too busy running a column to go out and run someone else’s.

“Lack of sexual knowledge?” Speak for yourself, man. :P

wait, i’m a little confused: why isn’t the number for MIT 100% across the board?

Comment by ase | 2009-03-17 23:38:15

haha. just because we don’t sleep at MIT doesn’t mean we don’t do other stuff. besides we have more important things to do like killer robot rampages and exploding things http://media.mymit.info/blog_images/mit_predictions.png

Over 70% does seem very oddly high.

Maybe they were all so tired from studying for finals they thought virginity meant the lack of ever setting foot in the state of Virginia?

Keep in mind the generation who was in undergrad back in 01 is currently finishing grad school/postdocing, look where that’s going. :)

I have no clue what went wrong with my eastern compatriots. We were doing just fine on this coast thank you. ;)

Huh? I’ve noticed the undergrads coming in starting in 02 have been horrible. No attention span, very self-focused individuals and poor work ethic. But that’s just my observation…

it’s because you weren’t looking hard enough at your own folk. or the people before you. or the people before them. something aristotle said and whatnot.

So Mitch, you surf craigslist looking for men wanting casual encounters?

Comment by mitch | 2008-05-16 23:10:16

Haha, apparently…

If only I had been aware of this data as an undergrad, I would’ve spent more time chasing business majors than pre-meds

Comment by mitch | 2008-05-19 23:17:24

I think your best bet would be Studio Art chicks.

just wanted to point out that comp sci having a 40% virginity rate at wellesley is believable. take into consideration that everyone at wellesley is a woman. then take into consideration the appeal of a female comp sci major, especially if you stereotype that they tend to be asian. laid, and laid.
