Chemist (Elisa Najera) Comes in 5th in Miss Universe 2008 Contest

by mitch on Jul 15 2008 (16870 Views)

We’re always fans of highlighting the sexier side of chemistry in contemporary news.  Recently, a chemist was a contestant in the 2008 Miss Universe contest. Miss Mexico, Elisa Najera, is 21 years old and a chemistry student. She came in 5th overall, 1st was won by some sort of interior design student from Venezuela.

However, Elisa did win 1st in the bikini competition. For those that need to analyze data independently, photo included.

May I add that Nnenna from America’s Next Top Model cycle 6 was also a chemist. She was sweet and of course, fierce, until she became a absolute pain (I watch TV too much).

Here’s a picture (food coloring rocks)

Anyone see the lovely use of the ringstand? :)

I guess they couldn’t fit the fume hood in the shot. :)

Yeah, but is she pre med or pre pharmacy?
There are tons of hot girls at my school studying chemistry. But they do not want to do research, they just want to go to medical school or pharmacy school!

I believe she studies food-chemistry, yummy.

I eat pre-meds for breakfast (but I save the cute ones for after dinner dessert). There are quite a few hot girls on the research track at our school, they just rarely make any appearance outside of lab.

I wonder how many of the other Miss Universe contestants were chemists?

Mitch, I also wonder whether Elisa won any other first place competitions, or was the bikini contest the only 1st place she won? …Just wondering that is all:)

This brings whole new meanings to the word chemistry. This is ground breaking research. I’ll have to investigate this in greater detail =)

Note to self: postdoc in Mexico! 27 to 21…that’s still in dating range, right?
