When trying to explain combustion,
Alchemists had a conjunction,
The theory decreed,
For fire you need,
A material containing phlogiston.
But phlogiston is obscene,
Its existence has never been,
Fire’s explanation,
Lies in fast oxidation,
A theory unflawed it would seem.
